At the America's Junior Miss finals on Saturday June 27, the programs national board announced that the Junior Miss program name has been changed to Distinguished Young Women:Scholarship-Leadership-Talent.
According to Lyn Bergdoll, President of our York program, "with this new name, there's no connotation of the program being a beauty pageant or little girl pageant. Changing the name will help the public understand what these young women are all about."
From now on, the local program will be known as York County's Distinguished Young Women. Title holders will be called York County's Distinguished Young Woman, Bergdoll said.
According to Miss Gochoco, "I think the name is a better representation of the personalities, the talent, the intellect of those who participate in the program."
